Wellness & Self-Care Week Supports Health and Emotional Wellbeing

Shujaa Health Services LLC successfully hosted another Wellness & Self-Care Week, an event designed to support the physical, emotional, and mental health of our residents. The goal is to provide adults with mental and physical challenges with tools and practices that encourage healthier lifestyles, emotional balance, and personal empowerment.

The week opened with Morning Movement Sessions featuring gentle stretching, chair yoga, mobility exercises, and breathing routines. Staff ensured that every activity was adaptable for various physical abilities. Residents who normally struggle with exercise expressed pride in completing their sessions, enjoying the upbeat music and encouragement from supportive staff.

Our Stress Management Workshops were among the most impactful sessions of the week. Using soft lighting, sensory tools, and guided relaxation techniques, residents explored ways to recognize emotions, engage in calming activities, and communicate feelings. Staff introduced grounding methods such as deep breaths, fidget tools, and positive self-talk. These lessons help residents manage daily frustrations more effectively.

The Healthy Choices & Nutrition Series taught residents the importance of balanced diets, hydration, sleep, and medication safety. Through hands-on demonstrations, residents learned how to prepare simple healthy snacks, identify nutritious foods, and understand medication routines. Visual charts and interactive activities made learning engaging and accessible.

Art therapy and self-expression were also key components of the week. Residents created paintings, stress jars, and affirmation cards. These activities provide emotional outlets and give residents tools to express their feelings constructively.

Our health team also conducted individual wellness check-ins, offering residents private time to discuss health concerns, ask questions, or review care plans. These check-ins help strengthen trust between residents and support staff, encouraging self-advocacy and participation in their own health decisions.

The event concluded with a soothing Wellness Celebration featuring aromatherapy, hand spa activities, soft music, and a “Wellness Achievement Certificate” for each resident. Residents expressed joy and relaxation as they celebrated their participation and newfound skills.
